Speaker Series: Michael Van der Porten

Michael Van der Porten from the Drake Navigators Guild speaks at a regular meeting of the Rotary Club of West Marin about the history of Sir Francis Drake and evidence of his landing in Drake’s Bay of the Point Reyes National Seashore. Toby’s Feed Barn event space in Point Reyes Station.

The Drake Navigators Guild is a not-for-profit historical research organization that has been investigating our 16th-century visitors since 1949.  The Guild's work contributed to the designation of the Drakes Bay Historic and Archaeological District as a National Historic Landmark (2012) and California Historical Landmark #1061 (2021).  The group's focus is on education about these early interesting visitors.
