Alison Healy, founder of Floating Doctors, speaks to the Rotary Club of West Marin about the non-profit, which her Rotary Club of Sausalito supports.

Since 2010, Floating Doctors has provided medical care to 8,000 Panamanian indigenous Ngabe people annually. Living in 240 separate communities that are only reachable by water, they have no other access to medical care. The organization brings a medical crew, volunteers, and supplies by canoe daily, focusing on saving women and children. Much of the attention is on family planning, attempting to reduce the average number of births from twelve per mother to eleven. Floating Doctors have cut this number by half in some communities through their multi-faceted approach. Dental care and veterinary care are also offered at no charge.
