Rotary Club of West Marin Speaker Series

  • RCWM E-meeting Online via Zoom (map)

Sam Lawson, Global Conservation Strategy Advisor at The Nature Conservancy. His career spans more than a half-century in national and community service, community-based conservation, and non-profit management. From civil rights advocacy and service as a Peace Corps-Ethiopia Volunteer in the 1960s, Sam worked as a community organizer, conservation practitioner, and nonprofit manager, most recently for The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in California and Kenya, and with the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (LWC) in Kenya. His work with TNC in California helped protect critical habitat throughout the State and restore Sacramento River floodplain forests and Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta wetlands. In Kenya, he led projects that help protect critical habitat for Black Rhino and other plains and upland game in government and private reserves, and on tribal trust lands controlled by community-based conservancies. Locally, Sam serve on the Mesa Refuge board of directors.

Sam will focus on the critical role wildlife conservation plays as a catalyst for peace, civil society, and economic development in Northern Kenya.
